East Stirlingshire 1881
Article by Footymad Tuesday, 6th November 2001
The Club originated in 1880 when a cricket team called Bainsford Bluebonnets decided to form a football team called Bainsford Britannia.

Their first game ended in a 0-7 defeat against Falkirk 2nd Eleven.

In November 1881 Bainsford Britannia changed their name to East Stirlingshire Football Club.

The club joined the Scottish Football Association in 1883 and in 1888 they reached the quarterfinals of the Scottish Cup before losing to Celtic.

The club joined Division two in 1900-01 and have only played two seasons in the top division. In 1931-32 the club won its only honour when it was the Division Two Championship.
In 1964 the club went out of existence when it was forced by its own chairman into amalgamation with Clydebank Juniors and moved to Kilbowie Park, Clydebank. After a court case the club regained its identity and independence and returned home to Firs Park.

In 1980 East Stirlingshire were promoted to Division One as runners up to local rivals Falkirk.
East Stirlingshire are currently looking at moving from Fir Par and buying half of Ochilview Park, Stenhousemuir and building a new stand there.

In 1966 East Stirlingshire appointed their first ever team a manager – Lawrence Binnie, up to then the directors had chosen the team.

Alex Ferguson began his managerial career with East Stirlingshire.

In 1995 East Stirlingshire amassed 59 points in the League – their highest ever points total.
